Compression is a trade-off
This tool re-encodes to MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Smaller resolution and higher CRF generally reduce size while losing more detail. CRF 23 is a starting point; 28 favors smaller files. The output can be larger than an already efficient source. Compare the displayed sizes before keeping it.
A practical workflow
Select a video, choose a short range and output width, then compress. Play the output and inspect small text or fast movement. Original rotation and advanced HDR metadata are not guaranteed.
Before you export
Use only media you own or have permission to process. Keep the source and inspect the result. Desktop Chrome or Edge is a useful starting point; memory, codecs, and graphics support vary by device. A readable error means the current file or environment needs a different workflow, not that a result was created.
Why is the result not always smaller?
A very small source, a different codec, or short clip overhead can outweigh the chosen compression. Try a smaller width or stronger compression. The tool reports the actual size instead of promising a target.
