Choose a video from your device

No video upload. Try a compatible MP4, MOV, or WebM file. Up to 2 GB; playback depends on your browser.

Up to 120 captured images / 96 MB per gallery. Sharpness is an estimate; seeking is browser-dependent. The end time is excluded from a batch. Your video stays on your device.

An MP4 still, ready for your next task

Use this MP4 frame extractor when you need a product still, a presentation image or a reference from footage you already have. Choose the original file above, pause at a useful moment and capture the picture shown in the preview. The image uses the decoded video dimensions: a 1920 × 1080 source creates a 1920 × 1080 capture. Enlarging that result later cannot recover detail missing from the recording.

Pick a moment before picking a format

For a single image, move the timeline close to the action, pause, then use small time steps to compare adjacent moments. A short sequence is useful when an expression changes quickly: sample one or two seconds rather than the entire recording. PNG avoids an additional lossy image encode. JPG is convenient for sharing; WebP can reduce the download size when the recipient supports it. Keep the original PNG if you plan to add text or crop several versions.

If your MP4 will not play

MP4 describes a container. The video inside might use H.264, HEVC or another codec, and browser playback depends on the device. A .mp4 extension alone does not establish compatibility. If the preview fails, export a separate H.264 MP4 copy from your editor, then open that copy. Conversion can change color, timing and compression, so retain your original. This workspace does not promise decoding of every MP4 codec.

Start with a short test

  1. Choose a compatible local video and wait for a playable preview.
  2. Capture one useful moment, or select a short range and interval.
  3. Compare the actual subject, then download an image or gallery ZIP.

The workspace accepts sources up to 2 GB and 8.3 million decoded pixels per frame. A gallery holds up to 120 images or 96 MB. Seeking depends on the browser and source timing. Keep the source, use media you have permission to process, and check a small output before starting a larger batch.

Questions for this workflow

Does an MP4 frame capture include sound?

No. Each download is a still image. Use Video to audio if you need the soundtrack as well.

Can I extract every source frame?

This tool samples requested timestamps with browser seeking. Use a dedicated decoder for exact frame indexing or very long sequences.

Our generated demo test produced four native-size 1280 × 720 PNGs from a 0–2 second range at a 0.5-second interval. Inspect the actual files before trying a larger batch.
