Video frame workspaceLOCAL PROCESSING

Choose a video from your device

No video upload. Try a compatible MP4, MOV, or WebM file. Up to 2 GB; playback depends on your browser.

Up to 120 captured images / 96 MB per gallery. Sharpness is an estimate; seeking is browser-dependent. The end time is excluded from a batch. Your video stays on your device.

Give a short video one clear visual idea

A Shorts cover can help explain the subject when the video appears in a list or on your channel. Choose a frame that shows the main result, object or person without needing the first few seconds of motion. Open the local file and compare candidate moments. Watch for blinking, half-finished gestures and camera blur. A clean expression or a clearly visible result often makes a more useful still than a crowded transition.

Portrait in, portrait out

This tool captures the decoded frame dimensions. A 1080 × 1920 recording creates a 1080 × 1920 still, while footage with other proportions retains those proportions. It does not crop to 9:16 or make horizontal footage vertical. Use an editor if you need a new composition. Keep a full-resolution PNG master so you can prepare different crops without repeatedly capturing a compressed preview.

Separate the image from the publishing controls

The extractor produces a file on your device. YouTube’s available cover or thumbnail options can depend on its current app and publishing workflow; this site cannot set them for you. Check the publishing preview before committing to a design. If your workflow only allows choosing a frame inside the video, use the downloaded candidates as references to the moments you want, rather than assuming an external image can always be uploaded.

Start with a short test

  1. Choose a compatible local video and wait for a playable preview.
  2. Capture one useful moment, or select a short range and interval.
  3. Compare the actual subject, then download an image or gallery ZIP.

The workspace accepts sources up to 2 GB and 8.3 million decoded pixels per frame. A gallery holds up to 120 images or 96 MB. Seeking depends on the browser and source timing. Keep the source, use media you have permission to process, and check a small output before starting a larger batch.

Questions for this workflow

Does it upload or set a Shorts thumbnail?

No. It downloads a still image. Check YouTube’s current publishing controls for how you can use it.

Can I keep several cover candidates?

Yes. Capture individual frames or a short sequence, then download the gallery ZIP.
